A successful agent for the past 35 years, Karen now leads the award-winning Bernardi Group and belongs to the prestigious Coldwell Banker® Society of Excellence, awarded to less than 1% of agents globally. I grew up in Lake Roberts, New Mexico, a small town where the main source of income was cattle ranches, Forest Service, hunting services and mining. At a young age, I worked for the neighboring ranches and guided hunters. I also worked for the Forest Service as a wild land fire fighter and when wild land fire season was at an end, I ran a string of pack horses/mules for them. These jobs gave me an understanding of range management and the dynamics of ranch properties.
I attended New Mexico State University where I took some range, animal science, and real estate classes. Then I had an opportunity to go into partnership on a 54,000 acres ranch lease from the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation. My partner and I ran 2000 head of steers which came from Parker, Hawaii. Shortly after that, I married my high school sweetheart, Shay, and moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado where I decided to train horses full time.
My horse training business led us to Grand Junction, Colorado where I began starting colts for a local rancher. We started a family with the birth of my son, Logan who now loves flying airplanes with his mom. I continued with the horse training business for 10 years and also worked for the Forest Service in fuel management.
I have been personally involved in investing in real estate and when the time was right, I jumped at the opportunity to become a real estate agent. I rely on my past experiences to help my clients with the challenges of identifying their needs and getting through the buying and selling process with ease.
I’ve been helping clients buy and sell land in the Hill Country, Central, South and West Texas – including ranches, live water, farms, hunting and recreational properties – since 1996.
I personally represent all buyers and sellers that do business with Bownds Ranches. As a 5th-generation Texas rancher and 3rd-generation ranch broker, it would be my privilege to help you find or sell your ranch.
A good Realtor knows how to determine a client’s needs and then gives them all the options to meet those requirements. Being a good listener is vital, and then you find the properties that fits your client’s needs. For my sellers, anyone can hang a “For Sale” sign up! But being truly invested in their client’s needs in my specialty. Real estate can be very confusing so having a knowledgeable professional with you each step of the way makes the whole experience a lot less stressful. That’s where I come in.
